Blades New SMHL Champion
4/28/2025

From fourth to first. The Blades capped an improbable season by winning the 2024-25 Sunday Morning Hockey League championship with a 5-4 victory over the Mercurys.

It was improbable in that the Blades finished the regular season with a losing record, only to pull together when it mattered most, in the post-season.

The game-deciding goal was scored by V.J. Williams, who broke a 4-4 tie with 1:32 remaining in regulation and overtime looming. The marker was set up by Paul McGowan, who finished with two assists, and Jake Hamilton, who led the Blades with a pair of goals and one assist.

The 'Mercs were paced by Trevor Klee, who scored twice, and Reid Kersey who totaled two goals and one assist.

Hockey returns in October, with the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
